On Friday 18th September the new research vessel for the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources was launched at Balenciaga shipyard in Spain.
Simultaneously with the launching of the research vessel, the vessels’ name was published: M/V Tarajoq.
The vessel is 61 x 16 m., and has ice-class for fishing in Arctic conditions. M/V Tarajoq is well equipped for making surveys for the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources both for pelagic and demersal species, as well as other ocean-related surveys for the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources.
The vessel will replace the former research vessel M/V Paamiut, which was scrapped in 2019.
M/V Tarajoq was designed by Skipsteknisk from Norway and is being built at Balanciaga shipyard in Northern Spain. The vessel is to be delivered to the owners in Spring 2021.
Atlantic Shipping has assisted the owner to design the project and helped the owners finding the right shipyard.
